HOLOS Student Ministry
Holos is the English transliteration of the Greek word ὅλος. Holos translated into English is “all”. It is the word that is used in Luke 10:27: He answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind;” and “your neighbor as yourself.” The definition of “all” in this context is “the whole”. The command, based out of Deuteronomy 6:5, is to love with the whole of our heart, soul, strength, and mind. This concept of the whole helps us get a greater grasp of what “all” truly means. When we follow this command, then and only then, we are able to obey the second command to love “your neighbor as yourself.” Holos is a name that reminds us of our objective as humans and Christians, and as we live in obedience of these two commands we bring glory to our great God and Father.
