OUR STORY
How it all started...
First Baptist Church Hondo was established in 1882. Those founding members felt it was important to have a place for believers to meet, grow in their faith and invite the lost to experience Jesus Christ.
Our first location was at the corner of Avenue K and 20th Street. Since there was no room for expansion at that location, in the late 1960's a full city block and another 1/2 block was purchased at the current site. We moved into the new, modern facility in 1970. A balcony area and expanded sanctuary seating was added in 1983. In 2007 construction began on new office areas and adult Sunday School classrooms on the east side of the campus. New children's classrooms and a Family Life Center was was also added on the west end of the campus, which we moved into in 2008.
We are committed to investing in the lives of children and youth. Since statistics show that 75% of believers made a profession of faith before the age of 18, that current age group deserves much of our evangelical focus and discipleship attention.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in Bible study groups and Sunday School classes. This is where discipleship growth and Christian community growth happens!
The church is also the best place for moms and dads to be encouraged and equipped to be the best parents they can be. Healthy fellowship with others and opportunities to strengthen marriages is an absolute priority at FBC Hondo. Christian families are under attack and we are compelled to offer Godly support, Biblical wisdom and accountability.
How it's going...
God continues to bless our church as we seek to honor Him with our preaching, worship, and service. Our Pastor preaches exegetically from the Word. Our worship time together on Sunday mornings includes various styles of music - a little old, a little new and a whole lot of in-between. The goal in all of it is that we would magnify our Lord, encourage others to do the same, and be able to see the good news of Jesus Christ in all that we do.
Our "Seasoned Saints" are a valuable asset at FBC Hondo. These men and women have a treasure trove of life experience to share with those who are coming behind them. We desire to glean from their wisdom and offer occasions for sweet fellowship and joyful service.
Opportunities to serve abound at FBC Hondo, and we are always seeking out ways to better use our hands and feet for kingdom work. Our Manna Pantry ministry, VBS and A Night in Bethlehem are three of our most noteworthy outreach programs. Serving one another in times of need is also a strength of FBC Hondo family members.
We believe that God brings together His children, with varying God-given talents and abilities, to accomplish His will in us and through us as we humbly surrender ourselves completely to Him.
We are so much better together and we are headed wherever God may lead!
God is able to do far more than we could ever ask for or imagine. He does everything by his power that is working in us.
Ephesians 3:20
Where we are headed...
FBC Hondo is committed to Loving God, Loving People and Making Disciples.
We are determined to strengthen and equip the disciples we already have and to seek and lead those without a relationship with Christ, to Him.
Our greatest desire is that together we will WORSHIP GOD, GROW IN DISCIPLESHIP and SERVE WITH HANDS & FEET.
